ABOUT: Chakana is easily one of the most impressive winemaking ventures in Argentina at the moment. The wines were birthed when master winemaker Alberto Antonini recognized the potential of the area and of Malbec in the 1990’s. The vineyards are incredible and sit 1000m above sea level in the foothills of the Andes Mountains, 452 acres of ‘em. The farming is biodynamic and the wines are bold and elegant, nothing overly jammy, oaky or fruity, just balanced, rich, exquisite wines. TASTE: Rich texture and lifted freshness is the name of the game here. Balanced and big-boned, this wine tastes amazing when there is snow on the ground and the fire is raging. Both red and black fruit aromas and flavors, and a nice, acidic edge. Flavors and aromas of raspberries, cherries, and plums as well as chocolate, leather and smoke, with oak represented and well integrated. A long finish and drinking for another 5-10 years.
