ABOUT: So excited to have another producer in Montlouis to get into. Francois Chidaine has always been the name to know, now we gladly add Lise and Bertrand Jousset to the mental rolodex. Directly across the river from Vouvray is Montlouis and like Vouvray, Chenin Blanc is queen and the Jousset’s are making outstanding wines. Founded in 2004, they farm their scattered 8 hectares using biodynamic methods and grow Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Gamay and Grolleau. Low intervention is the way of Jousset, no stirring or punching, letting gravity do it’s thing is their thing. We’ve only had the Chenin Blanc and it is outstanding, kill wine and a kill price.
TASTE: A brief explanation about the name, the Premier Rendez-vous cuvee is the name of their Chenin Blanc that comes from new and old vines spread out over 8 different parcels. This “version longue” is simply the same cuvee just aged longer. Bold aromas and flavors of pear, peach, lemon, orange, honey, lavender and stony salt. Bits of pineapple and baking spices in the mix as well. The body has a rich texture and the acidity is high and limey. Our new favorite expression of Chenin Blanc from the Loire Valley, thanks Lise and Bertrand!
PAIR: spicy Indian Bombay potatoes with chilies, oven roasted asparagus, Selles-sur-Cher goat cheese, and Elote grilled corn.
