ABOUT: Sinskey has 200 of the most beautifully positioned acres in Carneros, making top notch wines from every variety that grows in California. Robert Sinskey and his winemaker Jeff Virnig began converting their vineyards to organic and biodynamic practices in the early 1990's and the results have been stunning. For us, the wines are beacon for Sonoma. The Los Carneros Pinot Noir is our favorite Californian reds, and the Abraxas white, a blended of Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, and Gewurztraminer is the other favorite. The wines age exceptionally well; not long ago we tasted a 10 year old Abraxas and it had developed into a gorgeous wine, still fresh and bright but with rich, rounded citrus flavors and a touch of nutty depth. Sinskey wines are always priced fairly and punch way about their weight.
TASTE:This 2016 Abraxas is an Alsatian-inspired blend of white aromatic grapes from the Scintilla Sonoma Vineyard in the Carneros region of California. 41% Riesling, 28% Pinot Gris, 23% Pinot Blanc, 8% Gewurztraminer make up the blend, with flavors and aromas of citrus, red apple, lychee and melon fruits in a medium-medium+ bodied wine. Balanced acidity and a long finish make this an excellent wine to pair with food, which is something Sinskey and his crew go after.
