ABOUT: Schloss Gobelsburg was in the hands of monks for the last millennium. Since 1996 it’s been in the hands of Eva and Michael Moosbrugger who were granted the winemaking and viticultural contract, with the guarantee that they would have the property for the next 2 generations. Schloss Gobelsburg has many parcels throughout Kamptal, many of them Erste Lagen, or 1st growths. Michael Moosbrugger has been doing and impeccable job managing the property, eschewing modern, industrial, commercial techniques that make cookie-cutter wines. In a state of constant experimentation, he has been incorporating organic and biodynamic methods in the vineyard. Moosbrugger has a less-is-more approach and in 2009 and 2010 Gobelsburg was listed as one of the top 100 wineries of the year by Wine & Spirits Magazine.
TASTE: Praise-
"An aromatic cloud of orange and lemon zest rises from the glass. With air, the citrus notions become more heady and intense. They perform the same trick on the palate, shimmering in an aromatic array of bergamot, lemon, tangerine and orange. There's a vein of freshness, unforced concentration and the promise of a long future ahead. Drink 2020–2030." Wine Enthusiast 94 Points
“The 2016 Ried Heiligenstein opens with a very clear, pure and classic yet intense bouquet of lemon zest, confit and the flinty flavors of crushed rocks. On the palate, this is a complex, dense, piquant, finessed and mineral dry Riesling with the lingering salinity, fine grip and tension of the fabulous Heiligenstein terroir. This is another Riesling classic from the region that is lean and fresh and super stimulating. Very fine tannins here.” Stephan Rheinhardt, Wine Advocate 92-93 Points
